tert-Butyl 7-[3-oxo-3-(5-cyano-2,3-dihydro-1H-indol-1-yl)propyl]-9-oxa-3,7-diazabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-3-carboxylate (5 g, 0.017 mol; see step (vi) above) was taken up in 50 mL of dioxane that was saturated with HCl gas. The mixture was then stirred for 1 h under nitrogen atmosphere at RT. The resulting solid was filtered and washed with ether and then dried under vacuum to yield 4.42 g of the title compound as an off white solid.
