To a solution of 2-(2-fluorophenyl)-ethanol (4.00 g, 28.5 mmol) and triethylamine (6.36 mL, 45.7 mmol) in dichloromethane (15 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (2.88 mL, 37.1 mmol) at −5° C. The mixture was stirred for 4 hours and was allowed to slowly warm to room temperature. The mixture was diluted with dichloromethane and extracted with 1 M HCl and water. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography, using dichloromethane as eluent, to afford 5.88 g (94.4%) the title compound.
