Procedure

To a solution of (4-benzylpiperazin-1-yl)(1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidin-4-yl)methanone (1.5 g, 4 mmol) in THF (30 ml) was added LiAlH4 (8 mmol) in portions. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was quenched with ethyl acetate and methanol then made alkaline with 10% NaOH solution and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×40). The combined organic solution was dried and concentrated to give 1.5 g of desired product.
