Procedure

Add powered iron (419 mg, 7.5 mmol) to a solution of 1.1 g (3.0 mmol) of (2,6-difluoro-phenyl)-[4-(4-nitro-pyridin-2-yloxy)-piperidin-1-yl]-methanone, in glacial acetic acid (10 mL) and stir at 80° C. After 15 min, allow the mixture to reach room temperature and filter through Celite®. Wash the Celite® pad with Et2O and EtOAc. Wash the resulting organic layer with water, a saturated aqueous NaHCO3 solution and a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution. Separate organic layer, dry over MgSO4 and evaporate solvents to afford 831 mg (83% yield) of title compound as a white solid. (ES+(m/z)=334 [M+H].
