Procedure
Twenty grams of p-aminomethylbenzoic acid hemisulfate was suspended in 400 ml of methylene chloride, and 75 g of phosphorus pentachloride was slowly added to the suspension. The reaction was carried out at 40° to 45° C. for 2.5 hours. The solution was cooled with ice, and 300 ml of carbon tetrachloride was added, followed by filtration to give 18.3 g (yield 84%) of p-aminomethylbenzoyl chloride hemisulfate as white crystals.
