O-Cresol → 2,6-Dimethylphenol
Reaction equation
[C:1]1([CH3:8])[C:6]([OH:7])=[CH:5][CH:4]=[CH:3][CH:2]=1.[CH3:9]O.[O-2].[Ca+2]>[O-2].[Fe+2].[O-2].[Ti+4].[O-2].[O-2].[Cr+3].[O-2].[O-2].[Cr+3].O>[C:6]1([OH:7])[C:5]([CH3:9])=[CH:4][CH:3]=[CH:2][C:1]=1[CH3:8]Participants

Procedure
o-cresol, methanol and water in a ratio of 1:2.5:2.5 were reacted in the same way as in Example 1. The catalyst contained iron oxide, titanium oxide, chromium oxide and calcium oxide in a molar ratio of 100:4,5:0,5. After working up, 2,6-xylenol was obtained with a selectivity of 99.1%.
