To the product from Step A (0.080 g, 0.155 mmol) was added chloroform (1.6 mL). To the resulting solution was added hydrogen chloride (0.387 mL, 1.55 mmol, 4.0 M in 1,4-dioxane) causing the solution to turn yellow. The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 3 hours. Additional hydrogen chloride (0.387 mL, 1.55 mmol, 4.0 M in 1,4-dioxane) was added and the reaction stirred at ambient temperature for another 3 hours. The mixture was diluted with diethyl ether (5 mL) and filtered. The product was washed with Et2O and dried in vacuo to provide 0.068 g (86%) of the desired product as a yellow solid. MS ESI (+) m/z 417.1 (M+1) detected.
