Procedure

BCl3 (67.8 mL, 1.0 M in hexanes) was added to a solution if 2-vinylaniline (5.3 g, 44.3 mmol) in 40 mL of anhydrous toluene at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h and then refluxed for 2 h. The mixture was then evaporated to dryness and used immediately for next step.
