Procedure

A solution of compound 135 (0.09 g, 0.324 mmol) in dry methanol (3 mL) was treated with hydrazine hydrate (0.1 mL, 3.245 mmol) followed by Ra—Ni (˜0.05 g) at room temperature. The reaction was placed in a pre-heated oil bath and refluxed for 5 min. The reaction was brought to room temperature, filtered through celite bed and washed with methanol (2×10 mL). The combined methanol layer was evaporated and crude was purified by column chromatography (2 M NH3 in methanol: CH2Cl2, 5:95) to obtain compound 136 (0.08 g, quantitative) as a semi-solid. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6) δ 1.78-1.86 (m, 2H), 1.95-2.07 (m, 2H), 2.26 (s, 3H), 2.69-2.78 (m, 2H), 3.11-3.17 (m, 1H), 4.41 (s, 2H), 4.68 (dddd, 1H, J=4.5, 9.9, 9.9, 48.7 Hz), 6.45 (dd, 1H, J=2.1, 8.5 Hz), 6.71 (d, 1H, J=1.5 Hz), 6.93-7.04 (m, 2H), 10.36 (s, 1H); ESI-MS m/z (%): 248 (MH+, 100).
