38.7 g (0.1 mol) of [1-(3-chloropyridin-2-yl)-5-(trichloromethyl)-1H-pyrazol-3-yl]methanol and 10 g of H2SO4 (as 10% solution in water) were stirred for 3 hours at 80° C. The mixture was cooled to 0° C., made neutral with NaHCO3 solution and the precipitate was filtered off, washed with acetonitrile and dried. Yield 90%. M.p. 178-180° C.
