Reaction Steps

A mixture of 3-(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylidene)-1,1,1-trifluoroacetone (5.21 g, 24.8 mmol) and 20 ml water was stirred at 20° C. for 24 hours. The volatile components were removed under a reduced pressure of 20 mbar. The product was extracted with dichloromethane and the organic phase was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The precipitate was purified by crystallization from toluene.
