Triethylamine → 2,2-Difluoroethyl methanesulfonate

To a solution of 2,2-difluoro-ethanol (6 g, 73.12 mmol) and mesyl chloride (6.26 ml, 80.43 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (40 ml) was added triethylamine (12.66 ml, 87.74 mmol) dropwise at 0° C. After the addition was completed, the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and was stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was then washed two times with water and with brine and dried with Na2SO4. Evaporation of the solvent yielded the title compound (10.7 g, 92%) as yellow liquid.
