Procedure

To a 3.0 g amount of 7-(2,5-dichlorophenyl)-4,5-dihydro-2-methylpyrazolo(1,5-a)pyrimidine-3-carboxamide (Example 9) suspended and stirred in 100 ml of dry p-dioxane, under nitrogen is added 8.0 g of 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole. The mixture is evaporated to dryness in vacuo and the residue is treated with water to decompose the excess 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole. The remaining solid is collected by filtration, then stirred with 50 ml of tetrahydrofuran. The solid is collected and dried to give 1.6 g of the desired product as a white solid. The product is recrystallized from ethanol-acetonitrile and gives mp 205-209° C.
