Procedure

A mixture of 4.0 g of 4,5-dihydro-7-(3-pyridinyl)pyrazolo(1,5-a)pyrimidine-3-carboxamide (Example 10), 80 ml of dry p-dioxane and 10.0g of 1,1'- carbonyldiimidazole is heated at reflux for 5 hours. Then an additional 5.0 g of 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole is added and heating is continued for 16 hours. After cooling to room temperature the precipitated solid is collected by filtration, washed with water and dried in vacuo to give 2.0 g of the desired product as a white solid, mp 292-295° C.
