Reaction Steps
3.1 g (0.01 mol) of 1-benzhydryl-2-mercapto-5-imidazole carboxylic acid (Example 2a) and 100 cc of 1-propanol were heated to 97° C. while introducing gaseous hydrogen chloride until esterification was completed. Working up in a basic medium yielded 3.3 g (94% of the theory) of 1-benzhydryl-2-mercapto-5-propoxycarbonyl-imidazole, m.p. 133° C.
