Procedure
4-[1,4]Diazepan-1-yl-6-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-pyrimidine-2-carbonitrile trifluoroacetic acid salt (Example 13; 30 mg) and formaldehyde (6 mg, 37% wt aqueous) were stirred at room temperature in methanol (500 μl) for ten minutes. Sodium triacetoxyborohydride (17 mg) was added to the reaction and stirring continued for two hours. Solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to yield crude product. Purification by flash chromatography on silica yielded product 4-(4-methyl-[1,4]diazepan-1-yl)-6-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-pyrimidine-2-carbonitrile (10 mg).
