Procedure

Tin (II) chloride (135 mg, 0.6 mmol) was added to a solution of 5-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-3-(3-nitrophenyl)isoxazole compound (100 mg, 0.3 mmnol) in ethyl acetate (20 mL). The resulting solution was heated at reflux for 3 h and then cooled to room temperature. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (20 mL). The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate twice. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as an off-white solid, 71 mg.
