Procedure

A mixture of 1-(1-adamantylcarbonyl)-4-phenylthiosemicarbazide (C) (1.48 g) and 2 N NaOH (45 mL) was heated for I h under reflux in a N2 atmosphere and filtered. The filtrate was acidified with conc HCl to pH 4. The precipitated solid was filtered, washed with water and dried to give 5-(1-adamantyl)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (11). MS: 312 (M+1).
