Procedure
20.1 Parts of 2-(2,4-dichloro-5-hydroxy phenyl)-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-A]pyridin-3(2H)-one prepared as described in Example 3, 12.1 parts of ethyl-2-bromopropionate, 9.3 parts of anhydrous potassium carbonate and 100 parts of dry acetonitrile were refluxed for 5 hours. The reaction was cooled and poured into 250 parts of H2O. The aqueous suspension of product was extracted three times with 250 parts of methylene chloride and then the solution was dried with anhydrous sulfate. The solvent was removed on a rotary evaporator at reduced pressure. The glassy residue was crystallized from ethyl acetate-ether mixture. The yield was 16.0 parts of a light brown solid with m.p. 136°-138°.
