A stirred mixture of 1.38 g. (0.005 mole) of 1-ethyl-1,2-dihydro-4-hydroxy-7-methyl-2-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (prepared as in Example 1) and 0.75 g. (0.01 mole) of 2-methoxyethylamine in 20 ml. of ethanol was heated under reflux for 5 hours. The solution was left at room temperature overnight. The precipitate which formed was collected and was stirred in 100 ml. of a 20% aqueous acetic acid solution for 30 minutes. The insoluble material was collected, air dried and was recrystallized from heptane to give 0.9 g. of the title compound, m.p. 118°-20° C.
