Procedure

A 3.9 g. portion of impure 6-methyl-1-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)-2,4-heptanedione was reacted with 50 ml. of N,N-dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal, and then with 5 g. of methylamine hydrochloride as described in the examples above. The product was purified as described in Example 13 to obtain 0.22 g. of the desired product, m.p. 110°-112°. Nmr analysis is DMSOd6 showed peaks at δ7.6-8.3 (m, 6H, atomatic); 3.8 (s, 3H, N--CH3); 2.9-3.1 (d, 2H, COCH2); 1.8-2.4 (m, 1H, CH2CH); 0.8-1.0 (d, 6H, CH(CH3)2).
