Procedure

To a solution of 4-(4-chlorophenyl)-7-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-2,2-dimethyl-1-tetralone (3.7 g) in ethanol (25 ml) was added methylamine (8 ml) in ethanol (8 ml). The mixture was allowed to stand overnight. The solvent was removed and the residue shaken with ether-dilute hydrochloric acid. The aqueous layer was separated basified, extracted with ether and the extract dried (MgSO4). Evaporation gave 4(4-chlorophenyl)-7-(2-hydroxy-3-methylaminopropoxy)-2,2-dimethyl-1-tetralone as a semi-solid foam.
