Methyl 2-methylpyridine-3-carboxylate (30 g, 198 mmol) was taken up in DCM (420 mL) and mCPBA (48.9 g, 218 mmol) was added. The resulting solution was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was purified directly by flash chromatography (silica, 0-20% MeOH/EtOAc) to afford the title compound as a beige solid. 1H NMR (500 MHz, d6-DMSO) δ 8.45 (d, 1H), 7.64 (d, 1H), 7.38 (t, 1H), 3.86 (s, 3H), 2.54 (s, 3H).
