Procedure
4-Chloro-2-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine (1.4 g, 8.8 mmol), 1-methyl-4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-[1,3,2]dioxaborolan-2-yl)-1H-pyrazole (2.0 g, 1.1 eq), Na2CO3 (2.8 g, 3 eq) and Pd(PPh3)4 (500 mg, 0.43 mmol) were combined in a solvent comprised of toluene/EtOH/H2O (4/4/1, 20 mL). The reaction mixture was purged with argon and heated to 100° C. overnight. The reaction was filtered to remove insolubles and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography to provide 4-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-2-(methylthio)pyrimidine contaminated with triphenylphosphine oxide (2.0 g, >100% yield). 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 8.49 (d, J=5.1 Hz, 1H), 8.46 (s, 1H), 8.12 (s, 1H), 7.38 (d, J=5.1 Hz, 1H), 3.89 (s, 3H), 2.52 (s, 3H).
