In a 250 mL round-bottomed flask N-[2-(bromomethyl)-4-cyanophenyl]-2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (Intermediate 6, 6 g, 19.54 mmol) was dissolved in toluene (100 mL). Triphenylphosphine (5.12 g, 19.54 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture heated to 85° C. under argon for 5 hrs. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and the resulting yellow solid was collected, washed well with toluene, to give the title compound as a yellow solid (6.5 g);
