5-(Isobutyryl-methyl-amino)-4′-methyl-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (85 mg, 0.26 mmol)) was added to a mixture of methanol (2 mL) and 1N aqueous NaOH (2 mL) and the mixture was stirred for one hour. HCl (1N aqueous solution) was added dropwise to the stirring solution until a precipitate formed. An additional 0.5 1M of 1N HCl was added, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 67 mg of 5-(isobutyryl-methyl-amino)-4′-methyl-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid.
