A mixture of (tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)methanol (369 mg, 3.18 mmol) and di(1H-imidazol-1-yl)methanone (1.0 g, 6.36 mmol) in 0.3 M CH3CI (10 mL) was stirred at 50° C. for 3 h. After allowing the reaction to cool to room temperature, the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure giving (tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)methyl 1H-imidazole-1-carboxylate (412 mg) which was used without further purification. LC/MS: m/z 211.1 (M+H)+ at 0.94 min (10%-99% CH3CN (0.035% TFA)/H2O (0.05% TFA)).
