A mixture of 2-[3-methoxy-4-(4-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)-phenylamino]-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (210 mg, 0.586 mmol), KOH (3M in water, 1172 1, 3.52 mmol) and ethanol (3 ml) was heated to 90° C. for 12 h and then cooled to 0° C. An aqueous HCl solution (1 N) was added until pH7. The solvents were evaporated, toluene was added to the residue and evaporated again to yield the title compound as light brown solid (450 mg (purity 43%), 100%) .
