Procedure

A solution of 1,1′-carbonyldiimidazole (12.6 g, 78 mmol) in acetonitrile (150 mL) was added portionwise over 10 minutes to a stirred solution of D2 (13.7 g, 49 mmol) in acetonitrile (250 mL) at 40° C. The reaction mixture was heated at 40° C. for 15 hours and then allowed to cool. The precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with acetonitrile (2×50 mL) to give the title compound (9.6 g, 69% yield) as a purple solid that was used without further purification. (Rf: 0.5 (ethyl acetate/hexane 7:8))
