Reaction Steps
Dissolve the compound obtained in Step C (4.74×10−4 mol) in 1,4-dioxane (5 ml). Place the solution under stirring at ambient temperature and then add 10 ml of a 4N solution of HCl in 1,4-dioxane. The initially yellowish reaction mixture becomes darker and darker until it is virtually black. After stirring for 2 days at ambient temperature, the reaction mixture is evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure. The black residue obtained is chromatographed on a silica column using as eluant a 50/50 n-heptane/ethyl acetate mixture.
