Procedure
To a stirring solution of 2.14 g 4-bromo-2,6-dimethylpyridine 1-oxide in 10 mL of CH2Cl2 was added 7.4 mL of trifluoroacetic anhydride. After 20 h, the solution was concentrated, and the crude product was purified by flash silica gel chromatography (5% MeOH/CHCl3) to give 1.93 g of (4-bromo-6-methylpyridin-2-yl)methyl 2,2,2-trifluoroacetate with some impurity.
