A mixture of 4.6 g (14.1 mmol) of ethyl 1-cyclopropyl-6,7,8-trifluoro-1,4-dihydro-5-methyl-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylate in 100 ml of 6M hydrochloric acid was refluxed for four hours. The solution was cooled to room temperature and the solids were filtered, washed with water, and dried to give 3.9 g of the title compound, mp 234°-235° C.
