A mixture of the indole ester of step 9 above (0.8 g) and 10% aqueous NaOH/MeOH (20 ml/80 ml) is stirred under reflux for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is concentrated and the aqueous residue is diluted with water and extracted with CHCl3. The organic layer is dried (MgSO4) and evaporated affording an off-white solid which is determined to be the desired compound by NMR.
