6-Bromomethyl-2-chloro-quinoline (2.5 g, 9.7 mmol), 3-fluoro-5-(4-methoxy-tetrahydro-pyran-4-yl)-phenol (9a, 2.2 g, 9.7 mmol), and cesium carbonate (4.7 g, 14.6 mmol) were combined in MeCN (25 mL) and stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction was diluted with EtOAc and water, and the aqueous layer was extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to give the desired product, 9b.
