A mixture of ethyl 6-fluoro-4-hydroxy-1,1-dimethyl-2-oxo-naphthalene-3-carboxylate (1.1 g, 4.0 mmol), tert-butyl 2-aminoacetate hydrochloride (0.99 g, 5.9 mmol) in 10 mL dioxane, was treated with N-ethyl-N-isopropylpropan-2-amine (1.5 g, 12 mmol). The mixture was warmed to 95° C. and stirred for 15 hours. The mixture was then cooled to room temperature and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by column chromatography eluting with 10-30% EtOAc/hexane to give 1.13 g of the title compound as a white solid. MS m/e=364 (M+Na)+.
