To a solution of compound 24 (400 mg, 1.68 mmol) in dioxane (5 mL) was added potassium carbonate (695 mg, 5.04 mmol) and ethyl bromoacetate (0.56 mL, 5.04 mmol) and the resulting reaction mixture is allowed to stir at reflux for 18 hours. The reaction mixture is poured onto water and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×20 mL). The combined ethyl acetate extracts were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo. Chromatography (SiO2, 40% EtOAc-Hexanes eluant) provided 300 mg of 25 as a yellow oil (546 mg theoretical, 55% yield).
