Procedure

After adding 1.11 g of imidazole to a solution of 2.02 g of 3-hydroxy-5-methylbenzaldehyde [CAS No. 60549-26-0] in 20 ml of DIVEF, the reaction mixture was cooled to 0° C. Next, 3.56 ml of chlorotriisopropylsilane was added and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 19 hours and 10 minutes. Water was added to the reaction mixture, and extraction was performed twice with diethyl ether. The organic layer was washed twice with water and then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The desiccating agent was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane-diethyl ether) to give the title compound (3.86 g) as a yellow oil.
