A mixture of (2-amino-5-bromo-3-fluorophenyl)methanol (5.6 g, 23.7 mmol, obtained from step 3) and urea (21 g, 15 equiv.) was heated to 175° C. with vigorous stirring for 15 min. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and water was added. The solid was collected by filtration. Air-dried to give 2-hydroxyquinazoline as a light brown solid.
