A mixture of (2-amino-5-bromo-3-chlorophenyl)methanol (3.3 g, obtained from step 3) and urea (10.5 g, 15 equiv.) was heated to 180° C. with vigorous stirring for 1 hr. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and water was added. The solid was collected by filtration. Air-dried to give 2-hydroxyquinazoline as a yellow powder (2.18 g, crude). ES/MS m/z 259/261 (MH+).
