Procedure

m-Chloroperbenzoic acid (0.26 g, 1.49 mmol) was added to a cooled (0° C.) solution of the compound of Example 15 in dichloromethane (25 mL). The solution was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 4 hours. The mixture was diluted with CH2Cl2 (100 mL) and washed sequentially with NaHSO3, water, NaHCO3, and brine, dried over Na2SO4, concentrated, and triturated with hexane to give a white solid which was filtered and dried in vacuo to yield 0.42 g; m.p. 178°-181° C.
