Procedure
4.8 gm of 11-oxo-11-H-pyrido[2,1-b]quinazoline-2-carboxamide (see Example 14) were suspended in 150 ml of dimethylformamide, the suspension was heated to 50°-60° C, and 3.3 ml of thionyl chloride were added dropwise to the hot suspension. After all of the thionyl chloride had been added, the mixture was stirred for 10 hours at 90°-100° C. Thereafter, the reaction mixture was neutralized with a dilute aqueous sodium carbonate solution, and the precipitate was collected by suction filtration and recrystallized from dimethylformamide, yielding the compound of the formula ##STR23## which had a decomposition point of 268°-271° C.
