Reaction Steps
One gram of α-methoxy-N-(2-thienylacetyl)glycinate is dissolved in 10 ml methanol at 0°. Over 20 minutes, a solution of one equivalent of 10% KOH in methanol is added. After 15 minutes at 25° the solvent is evaporated and water is added. Addition of dilute HCl precipitates the title compound, which is extracted into ether and isolated by drying with MgSO4, filtering and evaporating ether.
