1 g (2.3 mmol) of 5-(4′-nitrobiphenyl-4-sulfonyl)-1-methyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine-6-carboxylic acid was dissolved in 15 ml of dimethylformamide (DMF) and, after addition of 0.1 g of hydrogenation catalyst (10% Pd on activated carbon), quantitatively hydrogenated within 2 h. After removal of the solvent, the crude product was purified by chromatography.
