Procedure

To a solution of 2(R)-[(N-benzyloxy-N-formylamino)-methyl]-hexanoic acid-[2,2-dimethyl-1(S)-(1-methyl-1H-imidazole-2-carbonyl)-propyl]-amide. (76 mg, 0.17 mmol) in methanol (2 mL) was added a slurry of 10% Pd/C (10 mg) in ethyl acetate (1 mL). Hydrogen gas was bubbled through the reaction for 15 minutes after which time the reaction was allowed to stir under one atmosphere of hydrogen for 2 hours. The reaction was flushed with argon and filtered through glass wool. The solvents were removed in vacuo to afford the title compound as a hygroscopic white crystalline solid (43 mg, 70%).
