Procedure

The product of Example 57, 4-(4-but-2-ynyloxy-benzenesulfonyl)-piperazine-1,3-dicarboxylic acid 1-tert-butyl ester 3-ethyl ester (3.8 g, 8.1 mmol), was dissolved in dichloromethane (3 mL). To this solution was added trifluoroacetic acid (3 mL) and the reaction was allowed to stir overnight. The reaction was then concentrated in vacuo and the residue triturated with dichloromethane to provide 2.64 g (88%) of 1-(4-but-2-ynyloxy-benzenesulfonyl)-piperazine-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester.
