Procedure
Cyclohexyl[3-methyl-5-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yloxy)-1-benzofuran-2-yl]methanone (7.1 g) synthesized in the above-mentioned (4) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (200 mL) and methanol (20 mL), and sodium borohydride (90%, 1.6 g) was added under ice-cooling. The ice bath was removed, and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was ice-cooled again, water (10 mL) and 1N hydrochloric acid (100 mL) were added carefully, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give a crude product (6.7 g, 98%) of the title object compound as a pale-yellow oil.
