Procedure
To a solution of 3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)benzaldehyde (Example 12-1c) 1.52 g (6.43 mmol), triethyl amine (5 mL) and (S)-methyl 2-amino-3-hydroxypropanoate hydrochloride (1.00 g, 6.43 mmol) in DCM (30 mL) was added MgSO4 and the solution was stirred at RT for 36 h. MgSO4 was then filtered off and DCM was removed under vacuum. The residue was dissolved in dry MeOH (40 mL), cooled to 0° C. and treated in small portions with NaBH4 (1.2 equiv.). The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 3 h, quenched with water (10 mL) and concentrated by removing MeOH. The residue was extracted with Ethyl acetate to provide (S)-methyl 2-(3-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)benzylamino)-3-hydroxypropanoate as yellowish oil (2.10 g, 96%). MS 340 (MH+).
