To 4-(chloromethyl)phenyl acetate (2.5 g, 13.5 mmol) was added neat morpholine (3.0 mL, 34.4 mmol) at r.t. The solution was heated to 70° C. for 45 min, then cooled. Water (10 mL) was added and the solution was extracted with 10% methanol in dichloromethane (4×20 mL). The combined organics were washed with brine, dried with Na2SO4, and concentrated. Purification on silica gel (10% methanol/dichloromethane) gave the title compound.
