tert-Butyl 2-(2-(trifluoromethyl)quinolin-7-yl)acetate was dissolved in glacial AcOH (0.8 mL) and 6 N HCl (0.8 mL) and heated to 80° C. for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford the crude product, which was used without further purification. HPLC method [4], retention time=1.874 min; MS (ESI) 256.1 (MH+).
