A stirred solution of the product of step (b) (3.22 g, 8.00 mmol) in 4 M hydrochloric acid in dioxane (40 mL) was heated at 50° C. After 8 h, the reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound. MS m/z: [M+H+] calcd for C18H26N2O2 303.20; found 303.5. 1H NMR (CD3OD, δ): 7.2 (m, 4H), 4.95 (m, 1H), 4.85 (s, 1H), 3.3 (br m, 3H), 2.8 (br m, 1H), 2.2 (br m, 2H), 2.0 (br m, 2H), 1.8 (br m, 5H), 1.4 (br m, 5H).
